A MORE PRIVATE SNAPSHOT
nicole mello
every day this autumn i saw the same
beautiful orange bush
each leaf was its own individual sunset
and they blossomed together like a bonfire
and every day i looked at the same
beautiful orange bush
and i thought,
what a beautiful, beautiful bush
i should take a picture and show everyone
exactly how beautiful this is
in the golden autumn sunlight
with all these sweet and fiery leaves,
before they fall off
and there is nothing more to share.
but the bush is so beautiful i keep staring
until i pass it and i think to myself,
tomorrow.
i will take the picture tomorrow.
and when tomorrow comes i see the same
beautiful orange bush
and there is one less leaf
but those still clinging to their twigs
are burning just as brightly as they were yesterday
and the bush is just so beautiful that i think,
today is the day i have to take a picture of this
beautiful orange bush
and show everybody just how beautiful it is
so they can revel in the marvels of nature with me
but then
i am so captivated by this
beautiful orange bush
that i pass it
intoxicated
and come out on the other side
thinking,
tomorrow.
i will take the picture tomorrow.
and when tomorrow keeps coming, and that
beautiful orange bush
keeps burning and dropping leaves,
and i still keep forgetting to do anything but
to be enthralled by this, this
beautiful orange bush,
it seems to me that i will have
an endless amount of tomorrows
in which i can indulge in admiring
every single flaming frond
until i came home today to see the
beautiful orange bush
had finally gone
and come to be only one leaf,
just at the center.
and,
looking at that
beautiful orange leaf,
in this
beautiful golden sunlight,
on this
beautiful autumn day,
i thought,
tomorrow.
i will take your picture tomorrow.
